The Pharmaceutical Journal
The Pharmaceutical Journal is the official journal of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. It is published by the Pharmaceutical Press, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Society. Under the terms of the Society’s Charter, the Society’s Assembly recognises The Pharmaceutical Journal as an editorially independent journal. The editor assumes total responsibility for the editorial content. The Journal was founded in 1841 and has been published weekly since 1870.
Editorial policyThe Pharmaceutical Journal aims to provide comprehensive news coverage of all aspects of pharmacy and to publish original research and articles on pharmaceutical and other health matters that relate to the practice of pharmacy in Great Britain.
Submission of materialMaterial for publication should preferably be submitted electronically by email. If electronic submission is not possible, material should be typed in a form suitable for scanning. All submissions must be accompanied by the name and address of the sender and a daytime contact telephone number.
News itemsWe welcome notice of matters for consideration as news items. These should be brought to the attention of the news editor (tel 020 7572 2414, email firstname.lastname@example.org).

Broad spectrumArticles of up to 950 words from any writer commenting on matters of topical interest can be sent to the deputy editor for consideration (email email@example.com).
AgendaArticles of up to 1,800 words from any writer commenting on the future direction of the profession or practice can be sent for consideration by the deputy editor (email firstname.lastname@example.org).
Notice-boardThe Journal publishes short items in Notice-board under the following headings: Appointments; Awards; Discontinued products; Prescription products; SPC changes; Supply issues; Wants. Clarifications and corrections also appear in this section. Information should be sent to email@example.com.
ArticlesArticles are welcomed on the understanding that they are subject to editorial revision and that their content has not been published elsewhere, except by agreement. The Journal will consider for print publication general articles on any subject relating to pharmacy of up to 1,800 words. Longer articles may be published online only and authors will be invited to write a 1,000-word summary for publication in print. Review articles and articles describing developments in clinical, scientific, practice or technological fields shall be peer-reviewed. For information on the peer-review process, click here.
Original papersOriginal papers are welcomed on the understanding that they are subject to editorial revision and that their content has not been published elsewhere, except by agreement. All original papers shall be peer-reviewed. For information on the peer-review process, click here. The Journal publishes original papers online only although writers will be asked to provide a 1,000-word summary to be published in print. Short reportsThe Journal is keen to disseminate practice research and audits carried out by pharmacists in their practice. These reports are not peer-reviewed. For more information on the submission of short reports, click here.

CPD articles are commissioned by The Journal and are not peer reviewed.
“Questions from practice” are answers commissioned by The Journal to real questions. Questions can be submitted on PJ Online.
The Journal is keen to publish more case reports. Writers must ensure that they have the consent of the patient involved or patient’s relatives. (For a consent form, click here.) These reports are not peer reviewed, but an expert will be invited to comment on cases, and comments received will be published alongside the case. The author and commentator will be anonymous until publication. Further discussion of case reports is welcome on PJ Online. For information on how to submit a case report click here.
Not all L&D material appears in print. Some content is exclusive to PJ Online but readers are alerted to its availability.

GazetteThe Pharmaceutical Journal is the official journal of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and the Gazette pages contain details of the Society’s official notices and transactions. Also on this page we carry details of forthcoming headquarters meetings in London, Edinburgh and Cardiff and forthcoming meetings of the Society’s local practice forums. In addition, The Journal is happy to receive information about members’ achievements for publication in the “About people” section. Submissions of no more than 100 words, including a photograph if possible, should be sent to the deputy editor (email email@example.com) for consideration. Deaths of members and former members of the Society that come to The Journal’s attention are also published here together with tributes from colleagues. Notifications of deaths and tributes can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Personal noticesThe personal column is intended for the announcement of birth, engagements, marriages, etc. The charge for an insertion is £25 for up to 30 words and £10 for every additional 10 or fewer words. Notices containing the sender’s name, address and telephone number can be posted to The Journal or emailed to email@example.com. Payment can be made by credit or debit card (Visa or Mastercard) (telephone Emma Kerby-Evans on 020 7572 2414).
Meeting reportsThe Pharmaceutical Journal does not generally publish reports from meetings, although exceptions may sometimes be made for the RPS Conference, the International Pharmaceutical Federation Congress and the Commonwealth Pharmacists Association conference. The Journal will upload reports of pharmaceutical meetings on PJ Online. Such reports are generally not edited. For more information on writing an interesting meeting report, click here. Completed reports should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org for uploading. They should be accompanied by the sender’s name address, contact telephone number and Royal Pharmaceutical Society membership number. We will only post material that has been submitted by RPS members or PJ subscribers.
