Waking up in London after two nights of ruthless riots can be pretty daunting; waking up in London after two nights of riots and going to a new job even more so; waking up in London after two nights of riots, going to a new job and then being asked to find out how those riots had affected local pharmacies and put it into a short story by lunch time — well, it would be safe to say my head went boom!
Arriving at The Pharmaceutical Journal on day one was pretty intense. The riots meant that I had a lead from the moment I walked through the door. Since then each day has been busier than the last.
From contacting Lloydspharmacy about its response to the riots to asking the General Pharmaceutical Council for a statement about the preregistration exam appeals process, I've learnt tonnes!
I've been given advice about writing features, short stories, asking questions, making notes, understanding what editors mean when they squiggle all over a piece of work — it’s like another language — I’ve been on a pretty steep learning curve but one I have enjoyed thoroughly.
I've also taken advantage of living in the capital and seen three plays and even got the chance to stand in Shakespeare’s Globe to see "All’s well that ends well".
For me, it has been a fantastic week!
