Week 1-4

My pre-registration year feels as if it well underway and although my mind has quickly settled back into a 'work pattern', my body is undoubtedly, kicking and screaming against any form of work routine. The tiredness was expected. I did not anticipate however the incredible cramps, the never-ending headache, the eye strain, the back pain and the debilitating neck-ache.

I spent the first two weeks dispensing solidly on benches that come just a little way beneath my waist. The 'checking position', as I've come to call it, is definitely the worst part of the pre-registration year so far. Now that I’ve started to visit wards as well as dispense, I think I've come down with some sort of virus. A raging sore throat, nasal congestion and more generalised muscle ache make a stiff neck seem like a dream.

On a happier note, there have been plenty of good parts too. The training day at the end of my first week was very good, getting to speak to other pre-reg's from the area and find out how they were doing. I'm learning plenty everyday, and then using that learning almost instantly. My tutor and the other pharmacists are all really helpful, as is the other pre-reg.

Already I'm starting to feel like a pharmacist, instead of a pharmacy student, which I suppose is the whole point of it really. Hopefully once I get over this flu, and maybe get a massage from Occupation Health for my neck, I'll be able to start focusing on evidence collection.
