Getting that wonderful festival atmosphere again,
I had a
bit of Festival practice this weekend working for the Co-op at the Respect Festival
in Exeter. It had that great feeling with the sun shining, colourful happy
crowds (I’ve never had a grumpy customer at Glastonbury . . but I’ve only been
working there since 1999!), music constantly playing in the background and the
smell of festival food. It was very nice but it just made me want so much more! It really
did just tease me because the Glastonbury Festival is so much bigger, busier
and noisier. There were a few very nice food stands but the quality (&
perhaps surprisingly, portion sizes) didn’t come close to Glasto. There are
over 250 food outlets at Glastonbury this year and it has a, justifiably,
wonderful reputation for selection & quality. My preferences tend to the
Noodle Bars or perhaps some of the giant Paella but the Garlic Kitchen is up
there too. It is a wonderful opportunity to try something new. You can eat
vegan or indulge in Wild Boar, Venison or even Ostrich! You can eat on a budget
or you can have silver service. You can eat fast food on the move, or settle
down in a café and observe the festival around you.
Space for the Medicine Man Pharmacy spot in the busy I Market
With much
of the paperwork done to set up the pharmacies, both FMS and Medicine Man are
trying to finalise their staff rotas. At this stage it is normal to be doing a
bit of juggling with the numbers. Tony & I were blessed to have Thelma
(Sally) and Louise to handle all the people stuff & make sure every problem
(and there were always many!) was overcome. It sounds like the FMS pharmacy
crew may have slightly fewer tickets than they’d hoped for, whereas when I last
spoke to James Powell, he was trying to find another pharmacist for Glasto to
replace one who’d dropped out. James & the team http://www.med-man.co.uk/
are fired up and ready for Download Festival & The Isle of White next
weekend. At Glastonbury though, the Medicine Man Pharmacy spot, and indeed the
whole market area is still an empty grassy field.
I did manage to check the tent . . finally!
Although I’ve
been busy, I did manage to put up my tent in the garden to see if anything was
missing or broken? Yep! I need a new elastic in one of the tent poles. The
difficulty now is trying to find the time to get to a camping shop before the
festival. The kids have sorted out their wellies and I’m sure I spotted mine in
the boot of the car. None of the websites I’ve looked at will give a weather
forecast until much nearer the time. I guess I should plan for all
eventualities.
I’m not as
organised as I’d like to be but it’s been worse!
Never
mind. Still 15 days to go!
Jim.
