The International Pharmaceutical Federation will hold its 70th congress from 28 August to 2 September 2010 in Lisbon, Portugal.

It is being hosted jointly by FIP and the Portuguese National Association of Pharmacies. The theme of the congress is “From molecule to medicine to maximising outcomes — pharmacy’s exploratory journey” and there will be over 50 sessions and workshops.

Symposia

The board of pharmaceutical sciences is running the following symposia:

  • Environment and pharmaceuticals
  • Pharmacoepidemiology/ pharmacoeconomics
  • Individualised medicine
  • Natural products
  • Dissolution/drug release
  • Dissolution testing
  • Nuclear pharmacy
  • Pharmaceutical biotechnology
  • Biopharmaceutics classification system
  • Medicinal chemistry


The FIP boards of pharmaceutical sciences and pharmaceutical practice are jointly running two symposia:

  • Adherence to therapy
  • Pharmacogenetics: pharmacists get ready!


The board of pharmaceutical practice is running four symposia:

  • Getting from here to there
  • Pharmacy as a profession: today and tomorrow
  • Medicines that changed the world — past, present and future
  • The journey towards better outcomes

 

Community pharmacy section

The community pharmacy section will hold a practitioners’ day and symposia on the different angles of community pharmacy practice along the lines of the strategic plans for Pharmacy 2020.

 

Hospital pharmacy section

The hospital pharmacy section has symposia on:

  • Implementation of the Basel statements — the European response
  • The Western Pacific regional programme
  • The Hospital Pharmacy Section country survey tool

 

Industrial pharmacy section

The industrial pharmacy section has symposia on:

Regulatory dialogue in building a sustainable environment for pharma innovation: checks and balances (jointly with the administrative pharmacy section and special interest group on pharmacoepidemiology/pharmacoeconomics)

Combating counterfeit medicines (jointly with the laboratory and medicines control section)

The best industrial pharmacy contributions of 2010 — short oral communications

 

Other sections

There will be meetings of the academic pharmacy, administrative pharmacy, pharmacy education taskforce, clinical biology, laboratory and medicines control services, military and emergency pharmacy, and pharmacy information sections.

The congress will also host meetings of FIP’s Young Pharmacists Group and the International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation.

 

Pre-congress events

There will be pre-congress satellite symposia from 28 to 29 August. Separate registration is required and only possible in addition to registration for the full congress.

 

Congress fees

Registration for the congress can only be made online. Fees are as follows:

Until 15 May, FIP members €585, non-members €825, students and recent graduates €200

  • After 15 May and until 1 August, the fees increase — members €685, non-members €925, students and recent graduates €250
  • Registration after 1 August and on-site registration will cost €995 for members and non-members and €300 for students and recent graduates
  • Accompanying persons pay €150 whatever the time of booking. In addition, day cards will be available on site at €300.

 

Accommodation and tours

The congress venue is the Lisboa Congress Centre. A range of hotel accommodation is available from €67 per night.

A range of pre- and post-congress tours will be available.
