Joint Statement from DDA
and PSNC
22nd of July 2008
Both organisations would
like to make it crystal clear that the battles of the early to mid nineties are
behind us. The negotiations and the subsequent agreement between us which led
to the 2005 Regulations have served rural communities well. The stability
produced by the current regulatory framework has enabled dispensing practices
and small rural pharmacies to plan for the future knowing that any change will
be incremental and planned in patients’ best interests.
We are very concerned
that the proposed changes to Control of Entry in the Pharmacy White Paper
threaten the stability we have achieved and will do untold harm to
inter-professional relations, which could take decades to mend.
Our joint view is that
patients will be best served by a continuation of the status quo in rural areas
and that wholesale imposed change is not helpful.
We want to be able to
move forward in a spirit of true co-operation, using the skills of both our
professions and our ancillary staff to the best advantage of those we serve,
our patients.

Executive, DDA
Sue Sharpe, Chief
Executive, PSNC

Since this joint statement doesn't seem to have appeared on the PSNC website - I thought I'd post it here for discussion.
There is however a response from the RPSGB
