New super gonorrhea immune to antibiotics

A brand new "super" kind of gonorrhea has been discovered. The disease is resistant to all recognized remedies. According to medical experts, this brand new strain could become a worldwide health threat. Source of article - New strain of gonorrhea is resistant to all antibiotics by Newsytype.com.

Penicillin used to be the main treatment

In the 1940s, penicillin started getting used for gonorrhea. It was used for many years. Almost immediately, however, medical professionals found it took more and more of the antibiotic to kill the bacterium. Penicillin still remained the top drug used to combat the illness until 1985. It became common to use other medications by then due to all the mutation of the disease. The narcotic mainly used these days is a class of antibiotics called cephalosporins.

Virus won't go away

Recently, a "super gonorrhea" has been detected. A "super virus" is one that is resistant to traditional forms of treatment. All recognized medications are unable to treat the brand new strain called H041.

Swedish researcher Magnus Unemo at the International Society for Sexually Transmitted Illness Research meeting in Quebec City, Canada was the one who declared it.

"This is both an alarming and a predictable discovery," said Unemo. "Since antibiotics became the standard treatment for gonorrhea in the 1940s, this bacterium has shown a remarkable capacity to develop resistance mechanisms to all drugs introduced to control it."

It needs to be dealt with right away. Otherwise, it will be a hazard globally.

Where it was found

Kyoto, Japan was where H041 was found. A lot of people expect that it will spread to the United States soon. It will only be a matter of time before it does. Dr. Kimberly Workowski is the Sexually Transmitted Disease treatment guideline director at the Center for Disease Control. HE said, "Traditionally southeast Asia has developed resistant isolates, and then there is a slow spread across (the Pacific), eventually coming to the U.S."

Dr. William Schaffner, of preventive medicine at Vanderbilt University Healthcare Center in Nashville, Tenn., said:

"We need to implement a program so that pharmaceutical companies are motivated financially to pursue research in developing antibiotics. And both the public and professionals have to be much more rigorous in their expectations and use of antibiotics."

Several get gonorrhea

Bacteria grown in the anus, reproductive organs, mouth, throat and eyes causes gonorrhea to spread as it is a sexually transmitted ailment. Of all the infectious diseases, it is second to be reported in the United States Chlamydia comes before it. About 700,000 cases per year pop up that are new. That is just in The United States. Girls between ages 15 and 19 have more cases than any other group.

Pelvic inflammatory illness can be developed with it which leads to ectopic pregnancies or infertility. It can also cause epididymitis in men. That is an infertility problem as well. Individuals infected with gonorrhea are also three times more likely to contract HIV if they come in contact with the disease. A number of people with it don't have any idea that they have it. It often leads to significant problems with health later in life.
