Supermarket Pharmacies

Upon commencing a shift at a popular supermarket Pharmacy I was both slightly amused and bemused at a bulletin newsletter that strayed in front of my eyes- a box of 'Pharmacist Recommends' overlays that was accompanying the said Bulletin, and was to be used by Pharmacists to use their years of training and expert medicinal knowledge to suggest sound remedies for a wide range of minor ailments. Apparently a tried and tested method of advertisement, this approach would provide Pharmacists with the professional autonomy deserved however the following paragraph then stated that the overlays must be placed on a list of items; lo and behold items with the highest markup! Next minute you'll be telling me that there are going to be price reductions on Pholcodine Linctus, Co-Codamol and Night Nurse... Oh wait so there is! Why is it that the Pharmacists that are salaried in Supermarkets do not vent their spleen over people who really have little idea on the fine mix between Retailer and Healthcare Provision taking charge and making decisions for us?
