Senior Prescribing Advisor
Salary: Band 8A £37,106 - £44,527 per annum
Hours: 30 - 37.5 per week
Contract: Permanent
Mid-Essex PCT covers both rural and urban communities with a
population of approximately 350,000 patients and has 50 practices in
7 practice-based commissioning consortia and 55 community pharmacies.
We are currently expanding our Medicines Management Team and
wish to recruit an experienced Clinical Primary Care Pharmacist to
manage the provision of advice and practice-based support to our
GP Practices and practice based commissioning consortia.
This is a key post within the Medicines Management Team in
Mid-Essex Primary Care Trust. It presents an excellent opportunity for
an enthusiastic and self-motivated pharmacist to drive the personal
development of healthcare professionals and the delivery of
prescribing and medicines-related campaigns in Mid-Essex.
The successful candidate will join our enthusiastic and forward
thinking Medicines Management Team in providing medicines
management advice and support to practices, staff and patients
across the PCT. You will promote safe, evidence based, clinically and
cost effective prescribing in GP practice(s) and the wider health community
in accordance with the Mid-Essex Joint Formulary and in accordance
with local and national standards and guidelines. Where agreed,
you’ll undertake all levels of medication review for individual patients
and implement changes and monitoring requirements as appropriate.
Within the Medicines Management Team you will be responsible
delivering a practice-based medicines management work
programme through practice based pharmacists in line with the
PCT Prescribing Action Plan. You will be responsible for supporting
the audit programme through the organisation, production and
communication of informative audit reports. You will act as a
secretary for the PCT Medicines Management Committee and support
the production and dissemination of the regular prescribing newsletter.
This role will also involve working in one of our GP practices.
You will co-ordinate the work of the practice-based sessional
pharmacists and manage a part-time Band 7 pharmacist and a full-time
Band 5 Pharmacy Technician.
You will have relevant post-graduate experience and a post-graduate
clinical pharmacy qualification or equivalent to diploma level
or above. You will be a good team player, well organised,
have excellent IT, communication, report writing and presentation skills.
You must be able to make an impression and be able to influence others.
Experience of working within primary care and the NHS is essential.
There will be support from the Medicines Management Team and the
Commissioning Directorate to develop your skills in order to meet the
needs of the role.
You will be based at Swift House (PCT Headquarters) in
Chelmsford but regular travel across the PCT area will be
required and access to your own transport during working
