What about practice-based pharmacists and PCT prescribing advisers?

Question:

Why does the article not mention or even acknowledge the existence of practice-based pharmacists or PCT prescribing advisers? Both, I would have thought, first ports of call for a community pharmacist wishing to approach a practice!

Answer:

I certainly acknowledge the valuable role played by prescribing adviser pharmacists and practice-based pharmacists. The article was aimed at community pharmacists and the practical steps that they can take to forge links with the surgery, therefore the advice was intended as self-help measures.

Community pharmacists are aware of their prescribing support pharmacists and most are aware that they can be approached to facilitate engagement with GP practices. The intention was to mobilise community pharmacists to find ways they can initiate action.
