KEITH G. ROUND (former Dudley and Stourbridge branch chairman and secretary) writes: It was with great sadness that I learnt of the passing of Anne Johnston after a long illness that she endured with fortitude.
I have known Anne for almost 40 years and in that time we worked together on many projects, in particular postgraduate education, the sesquicentennial anniversary of the Society, and the branch programme. I could not have asked for a more loyal and dedicated colleague with whom to work.
Not only did Anne serve on the regional committee, arranging postgraduate programmes for all branches in the region, she was one of the main organisers of educational lectures within the Dudley and Stourbridge branch and built up an enviable programme of recognised courses over the years.
During the sesquicentennial year of the Society we worked together to produce publicity and medical and educational material for public display in various shopping precincts around the borough. Anne put in hours of labour setting up these displays in all weathers.
She was a long-serving member, and sometime chairman of the Dudley branch, frequently attending and formulating motions for branch representatives’ meetings on their behalf. Her work in branch affairs was tireless and she was never short of ideas for topics to be included in the annual programme.
Anne was keen on the library at the local medical education centre and spent many hours working alongside the secretary to ensure its smooth running and that pharmacy was well represented. All this activity was carried out after her daily work as a well respected community pharmacist in addition to looking after a family.
A person never short of ideas or comment, sometimes controversial but always constructive, Anne never remained silent or lost for words. She got things done, and always followed through, never seeking glory or recognition, but thoroughly deserving it.
Anne worked tirelessly for the good of the profession, her patients, employers and for her colleagues. She will be missed by us all.
