Tetroxin
There has been recent interruption to the supply of Tetroxin (liothyronine) tablets 20µg from Amdipharm Mercury. Normal supply is expected to resume in around two weeks’ time. Unlicensed medicinal products are available for import from the EU on an individual patient basis to maintain availability of the medicine. However, the imported product may not be bioequivalent and affected patients must be closely monitored. Isosorbide mononitrate
There are significant shortages in the supply of isosorbide mononitrate tablets 10mg, 20mg and 40mg. Normal supply is unlikely to resume until the end of April 2013. Consideration of substitution with a slow release mononitrate preparation (which are not affected by this supply problem) is recommended. Community pharmacists presented with prescriptions for the normal release presentations and who are unable to obtain stock should refer patients back to prescribers so that an appropriate alternative can be prescribed. Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee has confirmed with the Department of Health that contractors will be reimbursed for dispensing an unlicensed alternative, for details of how to submit these prescriptions for reimbursement visit the PSNC website.
